Haircare - Advice & Tips

Colour Treated Hair

Don’t wash hair for atleast 48hours after your colour (this gives the colour a chance to grab & penetrate).

Wash your hair less often to prevent quick colour fade (2-3 times a week)

Using cooler water helps prevent colour fade.

Use professional colour saving shampoos which will help keep your colour shiny and reduce fade. (sulfate free)

Use colour safe dry shampoo on off days to prevent washing too often.

Use cooler water to prevent colour fade especially on vibrant colours.

Benefits of cooler water: The scalp stays cleaner for longer as the cool water closes your pores making it less vulnerable to grease, oil & dirt. cold water controls breakage. frizz, and flyaways.

Blow Drying

When blow drying with a hairdryer always make sure you have a nozzle on the end, this allows the dryer to control the direction of the hair & prevent direct heat blowing the hair in different directions, without this the hair will end up frizzy and flyaway which leads to spending more time using the irons to finish the hair off.

Before blow drying always use heat protection spray - By using heat protection it creates a protective barrier on the hair shaft to protect the cuticles from being exposed to high levels of heat.

Pros- prevents breakage, dryness, brittleness from any form of heat styling.

Elastic Bobbles

Swap the elastic bobbles for spiral bobbles, silk bobbles, hair ties, scrunchies or hair clips. This will help reduce breakage as your hair will wrap around the elastic and knot the hair making it more brittle and causing breakage.

Regular haircuts every 6-8 weeks will help keep your hair healthy and in the best condition. Those wanting to grow their hair still need regular trims otherwise the hair will gradually break away preventing growth.

Shampooing

Use warm water (not hot) to open up your cuticle and allow the shampoo & conditioner to penetrate the hair.

Rinse conditioner of with cooler water to seal the conditioner into the hair and close the cuticle which allows the specific conditioner to do its job.

Always use sulphate free products - Sulphates strip away too much moisture, leaving your hair dry & unhealthy. Using products which contain these leads to fast colour fade.

What are sulphates?

Sulphates are chemicals used as cleansing agents; they are found in household cleaners/detergents & even shampoos, hence the great lather.

Pros - lathers up.

Cons - cause scalp irritation, strips out too much natural oils, causes colour fade, leaves hair dry.
